DINO DAY 52!!!

dinoday_52

It’s DINO DAY again!

…the last Dino Day.

I’m not going to lie, I got a little teary eyed early this morning when I was painting this one. It’s happening again now.

I didn’t know if I was going to finish this project. At times, when I was drowning in deadlines and chained to this desk day and night, I just wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to draw anything else. In spite of that, every single time it happened. The boys would come into the studio and ask what I was drawing for Dino Day and I’d hop to it. I’d put pen or marker or brush to paper, forget about all of that other stuff and draw a dinosaur.

Silly as it might sound, I think Dino Day kind of saved me over the past year. It was pure drawing for the sake of drawing. It was fun. Most of all it was something that I shared with my sons. …and of course with you.

So for today’s piece, #52, I sat down and just let go. It’s brush and ink and paper. It’s loose and fun and I loved it.

The piece was drawn on an 11×11 inch piece of vellum bristol board, using a #8 round brush and paynes grey FW acrylic artists ink. I used my inky brush water for the wash effect in the background.

And there you have it.

A bit of housekeeping, then–

We’re now in the finial week of the DINO DAY Art Book Kickstarter.  We are in the home stretch.  Exactly eight days left.  As of right now we are 87% funded. Crazy close. That’s all thanks to you.

DINO DAY #51!

dinoday_51

It’s DINO DAY again!

Fifty-one weeks. Wow. Here we are.

Today’s piece is a special piece. One that I’ve wanted to do since very early on in DINO DAY. It’s an ode to my sons. It’s all of my favorite things about this project combined into one piece of art. In spite of next week being the last piece of the project, this to some degree, is my grand finale.  I always have fun with the DINO DAY pieces and put a lot of love in them, but this time, I wanted to go all out.  I wanted this piece to reflect what I do in my day-to-day comic work.  This piece is special to me. Nothing is cooler than my kids riding through Downtown Joplin on the back of a T-Rex.  I really love this one. I hope you do too.

This piece is a whopper.  Done on 11×11 inch vellum bristol board, using a hunt 102 crow quill and a Rafael Kolinsky brush with Paynes Grey FW acrylic artist ink.

On to news about the DINO DAY Art Book Kickstarter.  We are just a bit past the halfway point.  Exactly fourteen days left.  We are 75% funded!  I am just blown away by the support you’ve shown and as a little extra thank you, I’ve added some cool freebies with every order!  Everyone who orders a physical copy of the book (or more) will get a DINO DAY SOCIETY button and a set of 3 mini-prints.  We still have the coolest reward left too–next week, for the final DINO DAY piece, I will custom draw a dinosaur for YOU. And it will be part of the book. And you get to keep the art.  But you have to get it before next Wednesday! There are lots of other fun pieces available along with prints and t-shirts.  Here is a link to the Kickstarter page. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jerhaun/dino-day-art-book-by-jeremy-haun.  Check it out if you haven’t and be sure to share with your friends.

Oh– and if you haven’t seen it yet, here is what the DINO DAY Art Book is going to look like. I’m so happy with it!

Okay, I’m going to go make some comics.

See you next week!

DINO DAY 50!

dinoday_50

It’s DINO DAY AGAIN!

We’ve hit the end of the first week of the DINO DAY Art Book Kickstarter and I’m absolutely blown away by the support for the project. We’re over 60% of the way to our goal and going strong.

With only three more Dino Day entries left, I wanted to go out strong and make each of them special. This weeks piece was a lot of fun. In school I loved stippling– creating an image with a series of dots. The effect is a lot of fun and creates a lot of depth and texture.

This piece features a Compsognathus and was done on an 8x8in piece of rough Bristol board in Copic Marker. Below you’ll see a list of the Copics I used. …easier than typing them all.

So there you have it, another Dino Day down. Just two to go. Wow…that kind of makes me a little emotional when I think of it.

If you haven’t already, please check out the DINO DAY Kickstarter page–

Today’s piece, and all of the others (except for the ones that have already sold) are available on the Kickstarter, along with a cool t-shirt, prints, and of course, the book itself.

Check it out. Also, please share it on social media. We appreciate it.

Okay, I finished my Constantine deadline AND today’s piece. I’m going to leave the studio for a bit and buy some fun nerd stuff. I deserve it.

See you next week!

DINO DAY 49!

dinoday_49

It’s DINO DAY again!

And this is a very special Dino Day. After forty nine weeks of doing this project with the boys, we launched the DINO DAY Art Book Kickstarter project. As I type this, we’re twelve hours into the thirty day Kickstarter and have already reached over $3000 of our $15,000 goal. I can’t begin to express what this means to me. This project has meant so much  to me over the past year. It was a chance to share and make art with my sons. Having you share in it is an absolute honor.

Just in time for the Kickstarter kick off, I’ve finished up the newest piece. We went a little silly with this one. It’s goofy. It’s a homage. And it’s another painting.

Today’s piece pays homage to one of our favorite scenes from Jurassic Park.  It was done using acrylic paints and just a bit of pen in a couple places, on a nice 10x10in piece of Arches watercolor paper.

If you haven’t already, please check out the DINO DAY Kickstarter page–

Okay, all of this painting and Kickstarting is hard work. I’m going to go take a nap.

See you next week!
